Standard Bore Gage
right angle dial bore gauge

 

REPAIRS: Long Island Indicator Service is fully qualified to perform professional repairs on Standard dial bore gages. We have experience and we have parts. See page 30 for details.

SALES: Sizes 2 through 6 are American made dial bore gages, made by Dorsey in New York. They are identical to the old Standard Gage bore gages made in Poughkeepsie except that the dial indicator has been replaced by the better quality Dorsey indicator. All other parts are interchangeable. This is a rugged and reliable tool. Bore gage sizes 0 and 1 are made in Europe using a Kafer dial indicator and the measuring head is also identical to the old Standard Bore gages made in New York.

The 90 degree dial bore gage makes reading the dial easier. Specifically designed for jig-grinding machine operations. You won't have to disturb the machine tool setup and you won't have to crane your neck or crouch into dangerous positions. You may find it hard to "rock" the gage into place until you get used to it. Maneuvering with a right angle does not come intuitively.

In order to keep prices down, these bore gages ship in a simple styrofoam box. However, sturdy wood storage boxes are separately available.

Model B1-22103 made in USA (shown above). Except for the new-and-improved dial indicator, all other parts are identical to the old Standard Gage dial bore gage made in Poughkeepsie and the current Standard bore gage made in Switzerland. The Centralizing Plungers automatically locate the gaging contacts on the bore diameter even when the gage is inserted at an angle.

 

 

Dial indicator graduations are .0001" or 0.002 mm and each model comes with all range extensions and adapters. The indicator makes 4 revolutions for a total of .040" travel.

 

Contact Points (plungers): each bore gage comes with a steel gaging plunger and steel centralizing plungers as shown below. Other combinations of carbide and diamond plungers are available on request.

The gaging depth dimension "A" is the maximum depth without extensions (available separately). The dimension "B" is fixed and can not be altered (see dimension below).

Depth Extensions

 

Depth extensions: bore gage depth can be specified when the gage is purchased. The depth extensions are available for bore gage model 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. The depth which these bore gages can reach is called the "A" length and this length is available from 4" to 36". Please inquire about pricing and delivery.

Depth dimension "B" as shown in the illustration above is fixed and can not be altered. There are no extensions available for dimension "B".

Be advised that bore gages with added depth extensions will not function properly in the horizontal position. The weight of the long rod will bend the barrel and sluggishness or jamming will result. If you need to use the bore gage in a horizontal position, let us know in advance so we can advise the manufacturer who will make some factory adjustments (allow extra time).

 

 

Range Extensions

 

Each dial bore gage comes complete with all necessary range extensions. You may, however, wish to buy them individually to replace damaged or lost pieces. A locknut keeps them securely in place. In some models, two wrenches are required to tighten the extension and locknut. In models size 2 and larger, a separate contact point is screwed into the range extension. This contact point is available in steel, carbide or diamond. Refer to specific models in the spare parts lists.

 

 

Accuracy

 

Accuracy in bore gages is determined solely on the basis of the indicator's performance. For gage sizes 0 and 1, the accuracy is ±1/2 graduation over the entire range. For gage sizes 2 through 6, the accuracy is ±1/5 graduation. In all cases, repeatability is 1/5 graduation.
